RED REBEL TURNED SUCCESSFUL ENTERPRENEUR

BIO-PROFILE OF PASTOR MONTERO ALCOVER, JR.
(a.k a. JUN ALCOVER)

Red Rebel turned successful “Enterpreneur”

SHOWING the way it should be and organizing the it should go were natural endowments to a born leader.

Sired to a soldier-father on October 5, 1952 in C. Padilla St., Cebu City, Pastore M. Alcover, Jr. or Jun to friends, intermittently grew up in Cebu City, the Queeen City of Southern Philippines. As his father got assigned in Lanao del Norte, Jun finished elementary studies in Iligan City graduating as class salutatorian. Back to Cebu for his secondary schooling, he enrolled at the Abellana National High School. Early on, he showed his mettle in leadership by getting elected president of the ANHS Supreme Student Council. He led his historic first militant student street demonstration in Cebu City in 1969.

He enrolled at the University of San Carlos (USC) with intent to major in Political Science. His leadership ability caught the eyes of militant Manila-based leaders so that they recruited and made him join later on became a ranking leader of the Kabataang Makabayan (KM) and the Samahang Demokratiko ng Kabataan (SDK) in 1970’s. Later that year, he organized the Union of Democratic Workers – the first CPP labor front.

In 1971, he became an original member of the CPP-NPA expansion team for the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Because of this, he was expelled from the USC in early 1972. When Martial Law was declared, he went underground and married Aner B. Arnoco, a beauteous NPA freedom fighter, in a communist wedding ceremony. After the wedding, he organized the first NPA armed squad in Cebu. Due to the incessant military pursuit against him in Cebu province, Samar-Leyte area was a good refuge and there he organized the first CPP-NPA units in Southern Leyte during the period 1973-1974.

His initiatives and hard work did not go unnoticed so much so that in 1973 his status was elevated and become a ranking party member of the Eastern Visayas Regional Communist Party Command. Thus, he became Commander-Political Officer (CO-PO), NPA Regional Armed Unit in Samar Island in 1974.

Finally in 1978, after long years of evading military forces, he was captured and placed in solitary confinement for more than six months. His confinement offered him some opportunities to examine his social conscience and directions in life.

Thus, after being granted amnesty and release from detention, he became a strong and committed anti-communist/pro-democracy advocate and fighter. He then organized the Katipunan Para sa Demokratikong Reporma (KADRE), a very known anti-communism group in the Visayas and Mindanao in 1980.

Being a former communist rebel, he understands how the communist mind thinks and operate. To deny the CPP-NPA propaganda mileage, he started a very hectic and dangerous campaign of exposing and opposing the underground. Through lectures and seminars, the deceptive recruitment and organizational build-ups employed by the different united front organizations were exposed. His efforts were so successful that he was invited to several speaking engagements and tours in Australia and the USA.

When the industrial sector got seriously troubled due to the labor unrest caused by the leftist KMU (Kilusang Mayo Uno), he spearheaded a movement to expose and confront it. He was successful in averting strikes in many commercial establishments and industries. He was invited by many business establishments, throughout the country, to hear him telling about his success stories.

Ably steering as its chairman, he organized the National Alliance for Democracy (NAD), well known for having stifled KMU infiltrations. NAD also serves as the broad umbrella organization of pro-democracy advocates in the country. Jun also spearheaded the establishment of the National Alliance for Democracy & Freedom Foundation, Inc. (NADFI). As it is mainly composed of former rebels and marginalized groups, NADFI aims to initiate, develop and congregate support for livelihood and entrepreneurial projects of its members. And due to the unwavering support by captains of industries, he went into the security business to help safeguard peace and at the same time employ some 700 guards all adherent to his advocacy.

He founded the KADRE Security Force and General Services, Inc. (KSFGSI) to sustain his cause. An ideologically-sanitized labor force of 3,000 at General Santos City’s Century Canning plant comes from his job placement agency.

At one point he was he was Vice President for the Visayas of the Philippine Guardians Brotherhood, Inc. (PGBI). Running differences with then PGBI president now Senator – Gregorio Honasan, forced him to tender his resignation and organized the NGI (New Guardians for Freedom and Democracy, Inc.). He subsequently became its Founder/National President.

In 2003, aware that the Maoist communist already has infiltrated our country’s Congress (legislature) and used government funds to fuel their anti-government campaigns, we decided to bring our peaceful campaigns of education, organization and mobilization to the hallowed halls of the Congress’ Lower House (House of Representatives). This gave birth to the Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy (ANAD) and we joined the 2004 elections for party-list representation in the Lower House using the name ANAD party-list which was duly accredited by the Commission on Elections.

Technically we were able to make it to at least 1 seat but ANAD party-list was not proclaimed due to the intervening event that happened, the disappearance of then Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano as a result of infamous “Hello Garci” scandal.

Unfazed, we were making another shot in the party-list representation during the May 14, 2007 elections. This is our 2nd and last attempt as provided in our constitution.

Counter-organization and counter-mobilization of all awakened Filipinos is what our focus is all about. Pro-democracy lectures are regularly conducted by ANAD either on our own initiatives or through the invitations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

ANAD, as in previous pro-democracy groups that we earlier formed, is solely supported by donations and/or contributions, e.g. moral or financial, from different organizations and individuals determined to expose, confront and oppose the evils wrought by the Maoist CPP-NPA-NDF.

Despite our very limited resources, without support from the government and the military, ANAD officials and volunteers are committed to contribute our share in defense and preservation of our freedoms and democratic institutions.

Last September 2008, NADDFI had published a book, “ATROCITIES & LIES: The Untold Secrets of the Communist Party of the Philippines” authored by Jun Alcover, Yettan Veritta Liwanag, Tito A. Porras and Matthew Jennings. And currently, despite of his hectic schedules, Jun Alcover hosts a radio program dubbed as “SUMBONGAN” aired over Bantay Radyo (with simultaneous broadcast at dyDD-1260kHz for Metro Cebu, dyZZ-1458kHz for Negros Oriental and dyHH-864kHz for Northern Cebu).

ANAD, contrary to allegations by communist legal front organizations’ black propaganda, is not a creation of government or the military but a product of the Filipinos desire and commitment to protect our country’s freedom and democratic institutions.
